Interpreting solutions for multinational conferences and high-profile events
During simultaneous interpreting the interpreter translates the sentence into the target language meanwhile simultaneously listening to and comprehending the next sentence. This method saves a significant amount of time and allows for more understanding. Simultaneous interpreting is highly favourable. In multilingual conferences, professional events, training sessions, and workshops, as well as in a multinational corporate environments.
Simultaneous interpreting is the most demanding of all both mentally and professionally as the interpreter cannot start interpreting until he or she understands the general meaning of the sentence. As it requires expertise and heightened level of concentration, the client is required to make any relevant information such as written speeches, supplementary materials, names and positions of speakers, list of acronyms, etc. available prior to the event.
In order to maintain their level of concentration and stamina, interpreters usually follow a 20-30-minute rotating shift schedule, depending on the number of interpreters requested by the client. During simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter sits in a booth wearing a pair of headphones and speaks into a microphone. For this reason, professionals also call it booth interpreting or conference interpreting.
Simultaneous interpreting may take the form of the so-called whispering interpreting whereas the interpreter sits behind the clients and quietly whispers the translated text into their ears.
This form of interpreting is mostly used in settings as such on-line meetings, work meetings, general assemblies, seminars, company trainings, charity events, awards ceremonies, product demonstrations, or in live TV shows. Typically with only a handful of participants it allows for saving cost on expensive interpreting equipment. Nevertheless, it is advisable to rotate interpreters to maintain quality of service.
