HOW IS TRANSLATION ACCURACY MEASURED IN GIGABYTES?

DO WE KNOW MORE THAN THE ANCIENT SCHOLARS?

The collection of the Library of Alexandria was probably the largest of its kind in the ancient world, containing as many as 490,000 scrolls. It was looked after by probably hundreds of attendants and scribes. Yet a single fire was enough to wipe out that vast collection of knowledge and there was no one who would have been able to even partially recover that collection. Today the whole collection of the Library of Alexandria could be stored on the memory card in your phone.

Our terminology database is probably larger than the total volume of knowledge once stored in the Alexandria Library – so yes, in a way, we do know more than the ancient scholars, at least we have a larger database to lean on when we translate in various fields of business, technology, law and industry.

We use redundant data storage and retrieval solutions to safely store the vast amount of technical and business terms that we have compiled over the past 21 years. These term bases are updated daily and are maintained with one purpose in mind – to enable us to provide highly accurate and consistent translations.

100% CONSISTENCY PROVIDED CAT TOOLS

With the help of our CAT (Computer Assisted Translation) tools, we are able to provide high consistency in translation. That means that however long your translatable document is, every single technical term in the translatable document will be translated exactly the same way all through the document. No unintended variations, no typos, no mistranslations – just accurate and highly consistent translations.

HOW DOES THIS WORK IN PRACTICE?

Our project managers initiate a translation project in Trados, which is the primary CAT tool used by our company. They enter the translatable files in the project and analyse the documents for repetitions and perform a machine translation. They assign term bases to the translation project and create translation memories, as well. Then they bundle the whole or a part of a project and send it to the translators.

The benefits are twofold: first, the translators can use all the business and technical terms that H-Net has collected and compiled in the past 21 years of its operation, second, they will be able to translate much more quickly and consistently.
