IS CYBER ATTACK – THE BIGGEST THREAT TO YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS?
At Bridgehead-NOTworking™ International Business people from various Industry sectors meet in London. This occasion was no different: 54 business people from around the world met to establish and develop contacts while exchanging views and establishing bridgeheads with Central Eastern European markets.
VARIED COMPANIES, FOREIGN DREAMS
The popularity of Bridgehead-NOTworking™ is founded in its variety. Financial investors met an operator of Dalmatian apartment houses, business development companies engaged with an entrepreneur importing foodstuffs. Acquaintances were created between a private school principal and a training provider in India, the manager of a logistics company with the owner of a property protection business. The Managing Director of a telecommunications company shook hands over a game of darts with the proprietor of a company producing gold by means of nanotechnology, and conversations flourished between a Director of an aviation company with Rózsa Megla of NAVONA who designs our clothes.
On this occasion we were honoured by the presence of the President of the Congolese Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, encouraging business opportunities and connections with the African country. Paul Merell, representative ofLondon Chambers of Commerce and Industry responded enthusiastically to questions on the Brexit and the benefits of being a member of the Chamber.
PROTECTION AGAINST CYBER ATTACK. IS JUST YOUR SECURING YOUR PASSWORDS ENOUGH?
The head of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre has warned that a major cyber-attack on the UK is a matter of “when, not if”, raising the prospect of devastating disruption to British elections and critical infrastructure.
In remarks underlining newly released figures showing the number of cyber-attacks on the UK in the last 15 months, Ciaran Martin said the UK had been fortunate to avoid a so-called category one (C1) attack, broadly defined as an attack that might cripple infrastructure such as energy supplies and the financial services sector.
The US, France and other parts of Europe have already faced such attacks. Interference in elections would also constitute a C1 attack, as would a deliberately provocative move by a hostile state.
With so many companies connecting through the digital world it’s impossible to protect it 100%. As data enters and exits various points in the digital highway, it usually only needs to be authenticated once – if successful you have full control no matter where you originated from and as more companies integrate then the dangers increase, without proper defined security structure we are fighting a losing battle
This is the question posed by Graeme McGowan (Advisory Council Member) beginning his presentation, leaving our guests to contemplate on the importance of data protection using a video showing people being interviewed about their cyber security. In these interviews, passers-by told the most intimate secret of their e-mail accounts on camera.
We must constantly review data protection in our Companies ensuring compliancy and security. The lectures of the Global Cyber Academy’s CEO, Richard Bingley and Geoff Hudson-Searle (Advisory Council Member) discussing data phishing and the accessing of data stored in clouds had such a resonance that participants, after assessing their current situation, were not only enthusiastic in sipping fine wines, but also showered questions on the presenters concerning courses and assistance available.
